- RBBS-PC COMMUNICATION PARAMETERS
-
- Since most IBM PC communication software does not check for parity
- errors, and those that do check for parity errors have no
- mechanism for automatic retransmission of erroneuos data, this
- Bulletin Board System will begin using the following
- default communication paramters on July 4th:
-
- Parity -- None
- Number of data bits -- 8
- Number of stop bits -- 1
-
- These paramters will allow you to transmit to and receive from
- this system files containing 8-bit IBM PC special ASCII
- characters. The special IBM PC ASCII characters have ASCII values
- equal to or greater than 128 (see Appendix G of your IBM PC BASIC
- manual). These characters cannot be transmitted or received when
- this system is using even parity and 7 data bits; the high-bit is
- assumed to be a parity bit and is stripped from the data in the
- transfer process leaving a character with an ASCII value 128 less
- than the one contained in the original file.
-
- As you know, this system has an auto-parity detect and will switch
- to the parity and data bit configuration you call in using. This
- will not change on July 4th. You can still call in at E,7,1 and
- communicate with this RBBS. The only thing that will change is
- the default values I use at initial log-in. If you plan to use
- XMODEM, you should always come in at N,8,1 however.
-
- If you have any questions on this change, please leave me a
- message on this BBS.
